  • Physical ability to climb, lift, and stand for extended periods

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license (preferred)

  • Desire to learn, follow direction, and an interest in crane operation and safety

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides professional instruction in safe, efficient, and productive hands-on experience, of foundational training towards entry into BC’s formal Mobile Crane Operator Apprenticeships. The student will be instructed in and will perform exercises for Entry-level workers, swampers and ground crew. This course includes training in equipment simulators as support to crane equipment and it will ensure that the student understands the safe and proper use of the machine. Simulator training includes “walkaround” or pre-trip, control familiarization, basic machine functions and multi functioning. Additionally, simulator training includes performing tasks and simulated projects. Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be certified as a Crane support Rigger.

 

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have reliably demonstrated the following competencies:

• Identify different types of Cranes

• Be certified in Rigging Fundamentals

• Hand Signals

• Certified on all necessary compliance courses

• On-site safety

• communication skills, using signs, 2-way radios, machine signals and hand signals.

 

This course is Pre-apprenticeship Foundations. The training includes:

• Crane Types & Rigging

• Spotting & Communications and Signal Person

• Rigging Fundamentals

• Safety & Regulations

• Equipment Familiarization

• Basic Lift planning

• Instructor led learning - certifications will be based on assessment of competencies.

 

PRE-REQUISITES

No courses are required to be taken prior to commencing the program; however, the following items below are required for all students.

• Able to complete a 3-point mount and dis-mount on/off machine.

• Ability to sit long periods of time, and sustain some vibration from the machine.

• Able to physically perform the various tasks, including the joysticks & controls in the machine outlined therein. Demonstration may be required.

• The minimum age (with parental consent) of students permitted to enroll in our programs is 16 years of age. Students will be evaluated on an ongoing basis by an instructor with a complete written evaluation at course end.

 

Upon the successful completion of this program, the student will be certified as being proficient in Pre-Crane Foundations. Certification will be based on an assessment of competencies for each machine operated within the program.

• 20.0 Hours Compliance

• 100 Hours On-site

Student will be evaluated on ongoing bases by Instructor with a complete written evaluation at the end of the program.
